Software security seminar by OWASP Kerala Chapter

On September 25, 2014, the Kerala Chapter of Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) conducted a seminar on software application security in Technopark, Trivandrum .OWASP is a worldwide not-for-profit charitable organization focused on improving the security of software. According to Rajesh Nair, Board Member, OWASP Kerala Chapter, “Our mission is to make software security visible, so that individuals and organizations worldwide can make informed decisions about true software security risks. All of the OWASP tools, documents, forums, and chapters are free and open to anyone interested in improving application security. We advocate approaching application security as a people, process, and technology problem because the most effective approaches to application security includes improvements in all of these areas.”

The seminar had a session on Android Penetration Testing Basics by Vishnu P, An Overview on IT Audits & its best practice by Ninan Lawrence, and OWASP Top Ten Mobile by Rakesh S. All the speakers are Information Security Analysts from Ernst & Young.The OWASP Foundation came online on December 01, 2001. It was established as a not-for-profit charitable organization in the United States on April 21, 2004 to ensure the ongoing availability and support for the work at OWASP.

OWASP does not endorse or recommend commercial products or services, allowing the community to remain vendor neutral with the collective wisdom of the best minds in software security worldwide. The freedom from commercial pressures allows them to provide unbiased, practical, cost-effective information about application security. Similar to many open-source software projects, OWASP produces many types of materials in a collaborative and open way.
